Officials have confirmed that an unattended decease was reported on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley on Wednesday. According to UC Police, the individual was discovered on a lawn area near Sproul Hall.
Law enforcement stated that, based on initial observations, there were no immediate signs suggesting suspicious circumstances. It was also noted that the individual did not appear to have any known connection to the university community.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and later transported the individual at approximately 2 p.m. Authorities have not yet released further details, as the situation remains under review.
This marks the second reported death connected to the campus area within a short period. A day earlier, another individual was confirmed to have passed away near campus housing. Officials later identified that person as 21-year-old William Yi Lu of Berkeley.
University representatives expressed sympathy, extending condolences to those affected. They also noted that information surrounding both incidents is still being gathered.
Authorities have assured the public that updates will be shared as more facts become available, while investigations into both situations continue.
