Authorities in Colorado Springs have identified a motorcyclist who died following a traffic collision earlier this month, as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed the individual as 48-year-old Michael DeRivera. Officials said he died after being transported to a hospital for treatment following the crash.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on the morning of April 7 at approximately 8:45 a.m. The incident occurred near the intersection of Corporate Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard, in the area of Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road.

When first responders arrived, they found the motorcyclist with serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The department’s Major Crash Team is leading the investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that impairment is not believed to have played a role. However, investigators have noted that speed may have been a contributing factor.

Officials have not released additional details about the events leading up to the crash, and no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities also noted a rise in traffic-related deaths in the city. So far in 2026, there have been 12 such incidents in Colorado Springs, compared to six during the same period last year.

Police say further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
