Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon on Interstate 40 East in Greensboro, North Carolina, resulting in the decease of a 20-year-old South Carolina man.
According to Greensboro police, emergency crews from the Greensboro Fire Department and Guilford County EMS responded to the scene at approximately 4:57 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle on the ramp connecting I-40 East to U.S. 29 South.
Preliminary reports indicate that the rider, identified as Kelvin Level Broadhurst Jr. of Woodland, South Carolina, was operating a Ducati motorcycle traveling eastbound on I-40. As he entered the exit ramp toward U.S. 29 South, the motorcycle reportedly left the roadway to the left and struck a guardrail.
Investigators say Broadhurst was thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the impact. Despite the rapid response from emergency personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The Greensboro Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the incident and has taken over the investigation. Officials are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the crash, including any contributing roadway or environmental factors.
