Bruce Burrill Schreffler, 82, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children after an extended illness. He is remembered for his deep faith, dedication to family, and lifelong commitment to serving others.

Born on June 17, 1943, in Kankakee, Illinois, Bruce grew up in a family rooted in service and compassion. He followed in his father’s footsteps, beginning his journey in the funeral profession at a young age. After completing his education, including studies at Olivet Nazarene University and Worsham School of Mortuary Science, he officially joined the family business in 1973. Over the years, Bruce became a respected funeral director and co-owner, helping guide Schreffler Funeral Homes to a standard of excellence recognized within the profession.

Bruce and his wife, Susan Olivia Hall, were married in 1968 and built a life centered on love, faith, and hard work. Together, they raised two children, Amy and Sean, who later continued the family tradition in funeral service. Bruce took great pride in supporting families during difficult times, offering care, compassion, and professionalism for more than four decades before retiring in 2015.

A man of strong faith, Bruce remained actively involved in church life throughout his years, eventually becoming a member of Summerville Methodist Church in South Carolina. He also had a deep love for music, particularly as a tenor in church choirs and as a dedicated organist. His passion for music began in his youth and stayed with him throughout his life.

Bruce will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life touched many. His legacy of kindness, faith, and service will continue through his family and the many lives he impacted.
