Officials in Bedford County are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash that occurred on the morning of April 16, 2026, at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Fork Lane.
According to reports from Virginia State Police, the incident happened at approximately 10:26 a.m. when a 2011 Ford Escape attempted to make a left turn onto Lovers Lane from Fork Lane. During the maneuver, the vehicle entered the path of an oncoming 1997 Honda Accord, leading to a collision.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Ford, an 88-year-old woman from Vinton, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the incident. Sadly, she did not survive the crash. Officials have not released further personal details beyond confirming her identity.
The driver of the Honda, an 18-year-old male, was also wearing his seatbelt. He did not sustain injuries in the incident, according to investigators.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported and worked to manage the situation and secure the area. Traffic in the vicinity was temporarily affected as crews carried out their duties.
