Officials in DeKalb County have identified the woman who was killed during a police pursuit as 56-year-old Antoinette Catchings.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity following the incident, which occurred during a police chase involving a vehicle that authorities say had been reported as stolen.
According to preliminary information provided by investigators, the pursuit began when a DeKalb County police officer observed the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a stop. During the attempted escape, the driver lost control of the vehicle at high speed.
Authorities said the vehicle left the roadway and struck several pedestrians who were in the area. Catchings, who was walking nearby at the time, was fatally injured in the collision.
Police also confirmed that a teenager was hit during the incident and sustained serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle involved was injured, while a passenger in the car reportedly suffered minor injuries. All individuals were transported for medical treatment following the crash.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the driver, passenger, or the injured teenager, and further details regarding potential charges have also not been made public as the investigation continues.
