The Maryland Attorney General’s Office Independent Investigations Division (IID) has released the names of the man and officers involved in a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Sunday in Howard County.

Officials identified the decedent as 25-year-old Alexander Lamorie of Columbia. The officers involved were identified as Officer Joel Rodriguez, a two-year veteran; Officer Cody Bostic, a six-year veteran; and PFC Joseph Riebau, a 10-year veteran. All three are assigned to the department’s Field Operations Command.

According to authorities, officers responded around 12:22 a.m. on March 1 to an apartment building in the 6400 block of Freetown Road following reports of a man threatening to harm himself. Upon arrival, officers encountered Lamorie outside the building. Officials said he approached officers while holding a knife and did not comply with commands. Officers then discharged their firearms.

Law enforcement personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Lamorie was pronounced dead.

The IID is leading the ongoing investigation. Body-worn camera footage is generally released within 20 business days, though officials noted that timeframe may vary depending on the circumstances.
