A 28-year-old man from Chattanooga has been charged with murder in connection with the passing of a Walker County resident, according to authorities.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Steve Wilson said deputies were dispatched Monday to a home on Gilbert Street in Rossville to conduct a welfare check. Upon entering the residence, deputies located 38-year-old Robin Fredale Sutton deceased from a gunshot wound.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office, along with agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, launched a joint investigation. Early Tuesday, investigative leads directed authorities to a residence on South Howell Avenue in Chattanooga.

Sheriff Wilson said a warrant was obtained for Jermaine Matthew Jackson, who was taken into custody and transported to the East Ridge Police Department for questioning. A second warrant was later issued charging Jackson with murder.

Officials say the motive remains under investigation. Jackson is currently being held at the Hamilton County Jail in Tennessee and is expected to be extradited to Walker County.

Sheriff Wilson noted the arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Chattanooga Police Department. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
