Police discovered Soler around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 after being dispatched to her residence in the Donaree Village apartment complex. According to the initial incident report, officers entered the unit and found her lying on her back on the floor beside her bed. The scene immediately raised suspicions of foul play. Authorities had originally responded because someone reported concerns about Soler’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Luis Oscar Ocanto, who lives in Charleston.
As the investigation unfolded, police soon learned that Ocanto had already left the area. His whereabouts became clearer when officers in Kingsland, Georgia, more than 200 miles from Soler’s apartment, pulled him over on Interstate 95 for speeding. During the traffic stop, law enforcement discovered information connecting him to the ongoing case in South Carolina. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Camden County Jail in Woodbine, Georgia.
According to officials, Ocanto was booked on charges of being a fugitive from justice as well as theft of a motor vehicle. Online jail records show that as of midday on Nov. 20, he remained an active inmate in the facility. Detectives in North Charleston have stated their intention to have Ocanto extradited back to South Carolina, where he is expected to face a murder charge in connection with Soler’s death.
Investigators are continuing to piece together what happened inside the apartment in the hours and days before Soler was found.
