Sampson allegedly refused to stop and maneuvered into the Ybor City area after escaping a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver intended to stop his vehicle.
Due to the dense pedestrian traffic in the neighborhood, police ended the high-speed chase for public safety. Investigators later said that Sampson was traveling at approximately 80 mph when he collided with another vehicle at an intersection. Following the impact, he struck 11 pedestrians on the sidewalk before crashing into the outdoor seating area of a bar.
