Celerino Gonzales Jr. Obituary, Death – Authorities have released the identity of the man who lost his life in what police describe as a road rage incident on the North Side earlier this week. According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was identified as 58-year-old Celerino Gonzales Jr. Officials said he passed away from injuries sustained during the confrontation, and the case has been ruled a homicide.
The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, in the 11200 block of Belair Drive, after police received multiple calls about a shooting in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered Gonzales inside his vehicle with serious injuries. Despite prompt emergency response, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) say the event stemmed from an apparent road rage dispute between Gonzales and another driver, later identified as 23-year-old David Flores Oyervides III. Initial findings suggest that the two men became involved in a heated exchange while driving, which ultimately escalated once they reached a residential area.
According to a preliminary police report, Gonzales followed Oyervides to his residence following the confrontation. At some point, both individuals reportedly exchanged gunfire. The report states that Oyervides went inside his home to retrieve another weapon while Gonzales remained in his vehicle nearby. When Gonzales attempted to drive a short distance away, shots were fired again, ultimately striking him.
Police said the suspect continued to fire as Gonzales’s vehicle came to a stop a short distance down the road. During a press conference held by SAPD on Monday evening, authorities said evidence indicates that Gonzales also returned fire during the exchange.
After gathering witness accounts and reviewing evidence at the scene, investigators were able to identify Oyervides as the suspected shooter. On Wednesday, police confirmed that David Flores Oyervides III had been taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. Jail records show he is facing a murder charge and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities have not released additional details about what may have sparked the altercation between the two men or how the confrontation escalated to violence. Detectives continue to examine the series of events leading up to the incident, including reviewing surveillance footage from the neighborhood and speaking with witnesses.
Law enforcement officials have urged members of the public to remain calm in stressful driving situations and to avoid confrontation whenever possible. They emphasized that road rage can escalate quickly and lead to irreversible consequences, urging drivers to prioritize safety and contact police if they feel threatened.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities are also awaiting results from additional forensic analyses that could provide more insight into the case.
The San Antonio Police Department has asked anyone with information about the incident or footage from nearby security cameras to contact their homicide unit.
This tragic case has drawn attention across the community, with residents expressing concern over the increase in aggressive driving and road rage incidents. Community leaders have called for calm and urged people to handle disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
As of now, Oyervides remains in custody as the investigation continues. Police are expected to release further details once they complete their review of the evidence and witness statements.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the family of Celerino Gonzales Jr. has been notified. Authorities extended condolences to his loved ones as they continue to seek answers in this ongoing investigation.
