Oscar Ochoa-Tello Obituary, Death – Authorities have confirmed that the man injured in a suspected planned shooting in Beach Park has passed away, intensifying an ongoing criminal investigation in Lake County. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 46-year-old Oscar Ochoa-Tello, a resident of Beach Park. Officials reported that Ochoa-Tello died on Saturday after several days of hospitalization following a shooting that took place last Wednesday morning outside his home.

According to investigators, the incident occurred in the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road when Ochoa-Tello was outside warming up his vehicle. During that time, a gunman reportedly approached and opened fire before fleeing the area.

Family members who were nearby quickly rushed Ochoa-Tello to Vista East Medical Center, where he was stabilized and later airlifted to a trauma center due to the seriousness of his injuries. Despite extensive medical efforts, he succumbed to those injuries two days later.

In the days following the incident, Lake County detectives began an extensive investigation, including reviewing video surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses. Through this process, authorities identified a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting and traced it to 28-year-old Cristian N. Ruval-Cavatorres, of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin.

Law enforcement in Mount Pleasant located the suspect and conducted a traffic stop later that same day. Ruval-Cavatorres was taken into custody without incident. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators reportedly found a firearm they believe was used in the attack, along with a mobile phone allegedly used for communication linked to the incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation uncovered evidence suggesting that the attack had been planned, and that someone had hired Ruval-Cavatorres to carry out the shooting. Officials described it as a possible murder-for-hire case, though details about the motive or relationship between those involved have not been released.

Ruval-Cavatorres currently faces multiple serious charges, including Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. He remains in custody at the Racine County Jail in Wisconsin while awaiting extradition to Illinois, where the case will continue under Lake County’s jurisdiction.

Authorities stated that additional charges may be filed now that Ochoa-Tello has passed away, though no official announcement has been made.

Detectives continued their investigation throughout the week and, on Thursday afternoon, located a second suspect believed to have arranged the attack. The person, described as a male from North Chicago, was detained around 1:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Park Avenue.

He remains in custody as prosecutors review evidence and prepare potential charges, which the sheriff’s office said are pending.

Lake County Sheriff’s spokespersons emphasized that the department is working closely with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine the appropriate legal steps moving forward. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities collect more information about the planning, motive, and communication between those involved.

In a public statement, Sheriff’s officials expressed their condolences to the family and community members affected by Ochoa-Tello’s death. They also encouraged anyone with additional information or video footage related to the case to come forward, emphasizing that public cooperation plays a critical role in ensuring justice is served.

Community members in Beach Park have reacted with sadness to the news, describing Ochoa-Tello as a hardworking and kind neighbor. Many expressed shock that such a violent incident could occur in their typically quiet area.

Authorities have not disclosed when formal court proceedings will begin for Ruval-Cavatorres or the second suspect but confirmed that both remain in custody as the investigation develops.
