Lorenza Bailey Jr. Obituary, Death – Authorities in Delaware are investigating a two-vehicle accident that sadly resulted in the death of one person and left another with injuries. The Delaware State Police (DSP) confirmed that the incident occurred on Friday night, October 31, along South Dupont Highway near Tower Hill Road in Harrington.

According to an initial report from investigators, the collision took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. when a Ford Fusion, traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway, entered a center crossover as the driver prepared to make a left turn onto Tower Hill Road. At that same time, an Infiniti G37 was traveling southbound in the right lane of the highway, approaching the same intersection.

Preliminary findings suggest that, for reasons still under investigation, the Ford Fusion crossed into the path of the oncoming Infiniti. The front of the Infiniti then struck the right side of the Ford, resulting in a severe impact. The collision caused the Ford to veer off the west side of the highway, where it struck a utility pole before coming to a stop.

Emergency personnel and law enforcement officers quickly responded to the scene. The driver of the Ford, identified as 64-year-old Lorenza Bailey Jr. of Milford, was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Bailey was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Infiniti, a 19-year-old man also from Milford, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities reported that he is expected to recover fully.

Delaware State Police have stated that the cause of the accident remains under investigation. They are examining several factors, including road conditions, visibility, and vehicle movement leading up to the collision. Officials did not immediately indicate whether impairment or excessive speed played any role in the crash.

The section of South Dupont Highway near Tower Hill Road was temporarily closed to traffic while investigators conducted a detailed examination of the crash site. Crews worked for several hours to clear the roadway and restore normal traffic flow.

DSP investigators continue to collect evidence and review witness statements to determine exactly what led to the tragic event. They have asked for assistance from anyone who may have seen the collision or has relevant information. Individuals can contact Sergeant J. Wilson at (302) 698-8518, send a private message to the Delaware State Police Facebook page, or reach out anonymously to Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.

Authorities expressed their condolences to Bailey’s family, emphasizing that every loss of life on the roadway is deeply felt by both the community and first responders. They also reminded drivers to exercise caution, especially when making turns across traffic or navigating intersections at night.

Motor safety experts note that intersections remain among the most common sites for collisions, particularly when one vehicle is turning and another is approaching at highway speed. They advise drivers to always check for oncoming traffic, use signals early, and ensure there is adequate time and space before attempting to turn.

The Delaware State Police used this incident to reiterate their ongoing commitment to promoting safe driving across the state. As part of their traffic safety initiatives, troopers continue to increase visibility on major highways, encourage seat belt use, and conduct public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing serious crashes.

Community members in Milford and Harrington expressed sadness over the loss of Bailey, who was described as a well-known and kindhearted individual. Many took to social media to share condolences and offer prayers for his family.

As the investigation continues, the Delaware State Police will release additional updates once more details become available. Troopers continue to urge the public to prioritize safety, remain attentive on the road, and take extra care when driving during nighttime hours when visibility is limited.
