Authorities have identified a man who died in a hit-and-run crash in Compton on Wednesday evening.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim as 56-year-old Jose Navarette. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton Station responded to the intersection of North Alameda and East Dixon streets at 9:38 p.m. following reports of the collision.
Emergency personnel from the Compton Fire Department arrived and attempted to provide aid, but Navarette was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a station watch commander.
Deputies reported that the driver involved in the crash left the scene and did not stop to assist. No description of the vehicle has been released.
The intersection was temporarily closed while authorities investigated the incident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact Compton Station to help with the ongoing inquiry.
