Makaylah Dixon Obituary, Death – Authorities with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are looking into a single-vehicle crash that took place early Sunday morning, October 12, in Greene County. The accident happened along Fort Run Road, just east of Peanut Road, near the town of Snow Hill.

According to Trooper A.H. Batchelor, emergency responders arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash involving an SUV. When officers arrived, they discovered that the vehicle had gone off the roadway and overturned in a nearby field. Sadly, one person lost her life as a result of the accident.

Officials identified the victim as 27-year-old Makaylah Dixon, a resident of Snow Hill. The preliminary investigation suggests that the SUV veered off the right side of the road, then overcorrected and crossed into the opposite lane before leaving the roadway on the left side. The vehicle reportedly struck a ditch and flipped over several times before coming to a stop in a peanut field.

Authorities noted that Dixon was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, and her body was found nearby. Investigators are still working to determine whether she was driving the SUV or was one of the passengers. Troopers say that based on early findings, both speeding and possible alcohol use might have contributed to the accident, though no final conclusions have been made.

The State Highway Patrol continues to analyze evidence from the crash scene, including tire marks and vehicle debris, to better understand how the vehicle lost control. The investigation also involves gathering witness statements, reviewing possible surveillance footage from nearby areas, and performing toxicology tests to confirm whether impairment was a factor.

Residents living close to Fort Run Road told reporters that the area has seen several accidents over the years, largely due to sharp turns and uneven surfaces that can make driving at high speeds especially risky. One local resident mentioned that when vehicles drift off the road in that stretch, it can be difficult to regain control due to narrow shoulders and nearby ditches.

Law enforcement officials are reminding drivers to use extra caution on rural roads, especially during nighttime or early morning hours when visibility is low. They emphasized that wearing seatbelts and avoiding distractions or impairment while driving can significantly reduce the severity of crashes.

The accident caused a temporary closure of part of Fort Run Road while first responders worked to clear the scene and investigators collected evidence. Utility crews also inspected the area for any damage caused by the overturned vehicle. The road was reopened several hours later.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or seen the SUV prior to the incident to come forward with information. Witness accounts could help clarify what led to the loss of control and assist in finalizing the investigation.

This incident has deeply affected the small community of Snow Hill, where residents described Dixon as a young woman with a bright personality and a close-knit group of friends. Many have shared condolences on social media and expressed sympathy to her family during this difficult time.

As of now, investigators have not determined the final cause of the crash, and no further details have been released about whether anyone else was inside the vehicle. The State Highway Patrol has stated that additional updates will be provided once the investigation is complete.

The case serves as another reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving. Authorities continue to stress the need for vigilance, especially in rural areas where road conditions can change quickly and where even minor driving errors can lead to serious consequences.
