Authorities are investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Florida woman in Hamilton County during the early morning hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), troopers were called to the scene at approximately 12:46 a.m. following reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway along FM 1241, just south of County Road 401. Emergency responders arrived quickly and began assessing the situation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the driver, identified as 36-year-old Wendy Ann Lowery of Panama City Beach, Florida, was traveling alone in a Lexus ES300 when the vehicle, for reasons that have not yet been determined, veered off the road and entered a nearby drainage area. The vehicle then struck a fence and overturned.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Lowery was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Officials confirmed that her family has been notified.
At this time, investigators have not released additional details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Factors such as road conditions, speed, mechanical issues, or driver impairment have not yet been confirmed. Texas DPS stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing as troopers continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Single-vehicle crashes, especially those occurring during late-night or early-morning hours, remain a serious concern for roadway safety officials. Authorities often remind drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and use seat belts at all times, particularly when traveling unfamiliar routes or driving at night.
Texas DPS encourages the public to allow investigators time to complete a thorough review before drawing conclusions. Once finalized, an official copy of the crash report will be made available through the Texas.gov website for those who are authorized to request it.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of how quickly lives can be changed by roadway accidents. Friends, family members, and community members are encouraged to keep the victim’s loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Officials say further updates will be released if new information becomes available as the investigation progresses.
