Officials in Lacey Township have identified a woman who died following a police-involved shooting early Monday morning, according to state authorities.
The victim has been confirmed as 55-year-old Susanne Clarke, a resident of Lacey Township. Police responded shortly after 2 a.m. to a home on Hemlock Drive, near Birch Road in the Lanoka Harbor area, following a report of a medical emergency.
Upon arrival around 2:45 a.m., officers encountered Clarke, who had made the 911 call. Investigators say an interaction occurred between the officers and Clarke, during which one officer, identified as Dallas Gant, discharged his service weapon. Clarke was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 a.m.
Officials have not released details about the circumstances that led to the shooting but confirmed a knife was recovered outside the home.
The incident is under review by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability. Authorities have not stated whether Officer Gant has been placed on leave.
State investigators are continuing their review and have asked anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
