Skiander Samuel, Schenectady, N.Y. Death News – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office has released information about a serious vehicle incident that occurred Saturday at a Valvoline service center in the town of Halfmoon. Authorities confirmed the identities of both the individual who lost his life and the driver involved as the investigation continues.

The victim was identified as Skiander Samuel, 50, of Schenectady, New York. Officials said Samuel was an employee at the Valvoline location and was on duty at the time of the incident. He was transported to Albany Medical Center for medical care but later passed away on Monday as a result of his injuries.

The driver involved in the incident was identified as Erik J. Lundgren, 63, of Schaghticoke, New York. According to the sheriff’s office, Lundgren has been cooperating fully with investigators as they work to determine exactly what happened.

Deputies responded to the scene shortly before noon after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle crash at the Valvoline located at 1682 U.S. Route 9. Emergency personnel secured the area and provided assistance while the situation was assessed.

Investigators said multiple vehicles were positioned near the service bays at the time. Based on preliminary findings, two vehicles were waiting in line to enter the business through a rear service entrance. During that time, the second vehicle in line unexpectedly moved forward, resulting in a chain reaction involving the vehicles and the service area. The incident caused significant disruption inside the facility and led to severe injuries.

Emergency responders quickly arrived and provided aid before transporting the injured employee to the hospital. Authorities later confirmed his passing and extended condolences to his family, coworkers, and loved ones affected by the tragedy.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation. This specialized team is reviewing physical evidence, vehicle data, and witness accounts to better understand the sequence of events. Officials emphasized that this process takes time and is necessary to ensure accurate and fair conclusions.

At this stage, no additional details regarding contributing factors or possible charges have been released. Authorities have not indicated that the incident was intentional, and the investigation remains ongoing. Updates are expected once the review is completed and all findings are confirmed.

Community members and local residents expressed sadness following the news, particularly given that the incident occurred at a workplace during normal business operations. Officials acknowledged the impact such events can have on employees, customers, and the surrounding community.

The sheriff’s office encouraged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues. They also reminded drivers to remain alert and cautious at all times, especially in areas where vehicles and pedestrians may be in close proximity.

Further information will be shared by authorities as it becomes available. In the meantime, officials said their focus remains on completing a thorough investigation and supporting those affected by this tragic event.
