Authorities in Alexander County are investigating after a woman was found deceased inside her home, where officials believe a fire had previously occurred.
According to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a welfare check on Tuesday, March 17, at a residence along Royal Russell Road in Taylorsville. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman inside the home who had died.
Officials said there was evidence indicating that a fire had taken place within the residence. However, at the time deputies arrived, there were no visible flames or exterior signs of an active fire.
The woman has been identified as 67-year-old Sally Marshall Lackey. Authorities have not released additional personal details, pending the ongoing investigation.
