The Austin Police Department is investigating an early Sunday morning shooting in downtown Austin that left two people dead and 14 others injured.

Authorities report that the incident occurred outside Buford’s, a popular beer garden, and involved a single suspect, who was fatally shot by officers at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the suspect acted alone. Investigators are reviewing the circumstances and have not yet determined a motive.

One of the victims has been identified as 19-year-old Ryder Harrington, a student at Texas Tech University. Harrington’s death was confirmed by his family and his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, which described him as a well-loved member of their community. A candlelight vigil and fundraising efforts have been organized in his memory.

The identity of the second victim has not been released, and officials continue to investigate the conditions that led to the shooting. Among the 14 injured, three were reported in critical condition and were transported to local hospitals.

Authorities emphasize that the public is not facing an ongoing threat. Officials continue to gather evidence and are asking anyone with information to assist the investigation.
