Robert Espinoza Obituary, Death News – Authorities have confirmed that a man who was seriously hurt in a crash linked to an alleged street race on the East Side of San Antonio has passed away. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 33-year-old Robert Espinoza. His official cause and manner of death are still being reviewed.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday along the 8700 block of Interstate 10 East, between North Foster Road and Farm-to-Market Road 1516. According to a preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), two vehicles — a BMW M4 and a BMW 3 Series — were reportedly racing on the highway when the tragic crash took place.

Investigators said that at some point, the driver of the BMW M4 made contact with Espinoza’s Nissan, causing a chain reaction that led to serious damage. The report indicates that after the collision, the BMW M4 veered into a nearby concrete barrier, while the Nissan rolled over several times before coming to rest.

Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene, providing aid and transporting Espinoza to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The drivers of the two BMWs were identified by police as 20-year-old Kyle Jin Liu and 20-year-old Evan Moreno. Both were taken into custody and charged with racing resulting in serious bodily injury. Authorities stated that further charges may be considered as the case develops, especially in light of Espinoza’s passing.

According to county jail records, both Liu and Moreno were booked into the Bexar County Jail but later released on Saturday. The specific details regarding the conditions of their release were not immediately available.

Officials said the investigation remains active, and police are reviewing surveillance footage, crash reconstruction data, and witness accounts to determine the full sequence of events. Authorities are also working with prosecutors to assess whether additional charges will be filed now that the case has resulted in a fatality.

Community members in the area have voiced growing concern about reckless driving and street racing along that stretch of Interstate 10, noting that this isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that they are continuing efforts to curb illegal racing, which poses significant risks to both participants and unsuspecting drivers.

A spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department reminded the public that racing on public roads is not only dangerous but also illegal, and that anyone caught engaging in such behavior faces serious legal consequences, including jail time and vehicle impoundment. The department said it remains committed to preventing further tragedies through targeted patrols and public safety campaigns.

The incident has left Espinoza’s family and loved ones grieving the sudden loss. Friends have described him as a kind and hardworking man whose life was cut short due to an avoidable act of recklessness.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or captured video footage of the vehicles involved before the collision to contact the SAPD Traffic Investigations Division. Tips can also be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers of San Antonio.

As the investigation continues, officials say their primary focus is on uncovering the truth about what led up to the crash and ensuring accountability for those involved.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by high-speed driving and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives.
