Authorities in Rhode Island have confirmed that a third person has died following a shooting during a youth hockey event in Pawtucket last week.
According to the Pawtucket Police Department, Gerald Dorgan, who had been hospitalized in critical condition, has succumbed to his injuries. Officials said Dorgan was the grandfather of two other victims who were found deceased in the incident.
Police previously confirmed that Rhonda Dorgan and Aidan Dorgan also lost their lives in the shooting. Investigators said the suspect, identified as Robert Dorgan, 56, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. Authorities noted that he was specifically targeting family members during the incident.
In a public statement, Donald Grebien, mayor of Pawtucket, expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic act of violence,” he said.
Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Law enforcement agencies continue to review the events surrounding the case.
