Reinaldo Lopez Jr, POLK COUNTY, Fla. –A serious two-vehicle crash in northeast Polk County on Saturday night resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Ronald Reagan Parkway near Thousand Oaks Boulevard in the Loughman area, prompting an immediate response from deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue.
Authorities reported that the motorcyclist, identified as 41-year-old Reinaldo Lopez Jr. from Poinciana, was traveling westbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway when a vehicle attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway. The vehicle, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz sedan, entered the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but unfortunately, Lopez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Deputies noted that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 30-year-old woman from Davenport, and her passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Winter Garden, were both wearing seat belts and were not injured in the incident. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries reported for either occupant of the car.
Traffic homicide detectives worked to secure the area and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours while emergency responders and law enforcement personnel conducted their work.
