Authorities in Nashville have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Monday. Metro Nashville Police report that 75-year-old Naomi Mangrum was struck while crossing Gallatin Pike in a wheelchair after receiving a walk signal.

Mangrum was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in critical condition but died from her injuries the following morning.

Police say the driver, 31-year-old Katelyn Rountree from Michigan, told authorities she was looking at her phone’s GPS at the time of the incident and did not see Mangrum. Rountree was arrested at the scene and charged with failure to yield the right of way resulting in serious injury. She was released on a $1,000 bond.

Gallatin Pike South near East Palestine Avenue was temporarily closed while investigators conducted their review.

The Metro Nashville Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and asks anyone with information to contact authorities. Officials expressed condolences to Mangrum’s family during this difficult time.
