MONROE, Ga. — Police have identified the woman who was killed early Sunday morning in a shooting on the city’s west side, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Monroe Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of GW Carver Drive around 2:30 a.m. on January 25 after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a woman with life-threatening injuries.
The victim has been named by police as 22-year-old Teonia Stokes of Social Circle. A second person, 25-year-old Curdarious Williams of Monroe, was also injured in the incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police say the shooting remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives are working to determine what led to the violence and are asking anyone with information that may assist their inquiry to contact Monroe Police Department investigators.
The department has extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
