Community members and colleagues are mourning the loss of a Bozeman nurse who died in a pedestrian crash Thursday morning.
The Gallatin County Sheriff/Coroner identified the victim as 39-year-old Leslie Brown. Authorities said Brown was struck by a vehicle while using a marked crosswalk on West Oak Street near Agate Avenue around 7:30 a.m. She was transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The Bozeman Police Department stated that preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling west on Oak Street and did not stop for a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The incident remains under investigation. Officials said multiple witnesses have provided statements, and no charging decisions have been announced.
In a statement, Bozeman Health expressed deep sorrow over Brown’s passing. The organization described her as a dedicated and compassionate nurse who had served since 2015, adding that she would be remembered for her professionalism and kindness. The health system extended condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
Residents have voiced concerns about safety along Oak Street, including traffic speeds and crosswalk visibility. Police officials said they are not currently aware of planned changes but will review the circumstances with city departments.
State and national data show pedestrian fatalities have increased in recent years, prompting continued discussions about roadway safety and enforcement. Authorities encourage drivers to remain alert and follow traffic laws to help protect pedestrians.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
