Authorities in Washington state are investigating a late-night crash that left one woman dead and another person injured in Chelan County.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the collision occurred Saturday night at approximately 9:55 p.m. along State Route 97A near milepost 220. Officials say two vehicles were traveling northbound on the highway at the time of the incident.

Investigators reported that one vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer carrying two occupants, was traveling in the same direction as a Ford F450 pickup truck, which also had two people inside.

Preliminary information from WSP indicates that the Ford pickup attempted to make a right turn while traveling along the highway. At that moment, authorities say the Chevy Trailblazer did not yield and struck the Ford.

Following the impact, both vehicles came to a stop on the roadway, blocking both the northbound and southbound lanes of SR-97A. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly afterward to assist those involved and secure the area.

According to investigators, most of the occupants involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time. However, authorities say one woman traveling in the Chevy Trailblazer was not restrained. Washington State Patrol officials confirmed that the woman, identified as 24-year-old Kasey J. Emery of Chelan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second person who was traveling in the Chevy Trailblazer sustained injuries and was transported to Central Valley Hospital for treatment. Officials have not released further details about that individual’s condition.

Authorities also stated that the two people inside the Ford F450 did not report any injuries following the collision.

Investigators with the Washington State Patrol continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including vehicle movements and road conditions at the time of the incident. Traffic accidents involving multiple vehicles often require detailed analysis as authorities work to determine the sequence of events.

Officials have not announced whether additional factors may have contributed to the crash. Incidents like this often prompt reminders from safety officials about the importance of defensive driving and the consistent use of seatbelts for everyone inside a vehicle.

As investigators work to determine exactly what happened on SR-97A that night, the community is also reflecting on the loss of a young life.
