Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian late Wednesday night in Lynwood.
Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded around 11 p.m. to reports of a traffic collision at the intersection of North Alameda Street and East Dixon Street.
According to officials, first responders attempted lifesaving efforts at the scene. However, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
Investigators have not yet publicly identified the victim, who is currently listed as a “John Doe.” Authorities believe the individual may have been experiencing homelessness, based on preliminary information from the Sheriff’s Department’s Compton Station.
Officials said the vehicle involved in the crash left the scene. At this time, investigators have not released a description of the vehicle or a potential suspect. The type of vehicle involved also remains unknown.
The circumstances leading up to the collision are still under investigation as deputies work to gather additional evidence and determine what occurred.
