The Virginia State Police have identified the man shot by a trooper following a crash and stabbing incident on Interstate 495 Sunday afternoon.
Authorities report that 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean was pronounced deceased at a hospital after being confronted by a trooper around 1:17 p.m. The trooper was responding to a reported road rage incident and encountered Llamado with a knife, according to a news release from state police.
Investigators say the incident also involved four women who were stabbed. One victim, 39-year-old Michelle Adams, died from her injuries. The three other women were transported to hospitals with serious injuries. A dog was also fatally injured during the incident. Officials are withholding the identities of the surviving victims.
Police indicated that the stabbings stemmed from a crash in the southbound lanes of I-495.
The trooper involved in the shooting was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave while investigators review the use of force. Authorities emphasize that the attack is not believed to be connected to terrorism.
