Authorities in Kentucky are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Simpson County, resulting in one fatality and one injury.
According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), emergency crews were called to the 1200 block of Witt Road shortly before 6 p.m. after reports of a single-vehicle motorcycle incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound along Witt Road when it unexpectedly left the roadway and went onto the right shoulder. Both the rider and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle following the incident.
The rider has been identified as 47-year-old Jared Jones of Salem, Indiana. He was pronounced deceased at the scene despite emergency response efforts. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, sustained injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, for further medical treatment.
Officials have not yet released details on the passenger’s current condition. Authorities also have not confirmed what may have caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway. Investigators are examining all possible contributing factors, including road conditions, speed, and other circumstances surrounding the crash.
