According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded around 2:54 p.m. on January 24, 2026, to a collision on NC Highway 903 near David Brown Road. The crash involved a single vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, traveling westbound.

Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway to the right, crossed the center line, left the roadway again, and struck a ditch. The car overturned several times before coming to a stop in the roadway. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and quickly provided assistance.

One of the passengers, 29-year-old James Jean of Windsor, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 37-year-old Oge Bernadouche of Tarboro, and two other passengers were transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for treatment of injuries. The conditions of the injured parties have not been released, but authorities reported that they were conscious when taken to the hospital.
