GREENACRES, Fla. — Police have released the identities of the two women who were killed in a double shooting in Greenacres on Monday morning, and officials confirmed that the man believed to be responsible is also deceased. Local law enforcement continues to investigate the incident as a tragic event that unfolded in a residential community.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) identified the victims as 25‑year‑old Brianna Rodriguez‑Quintana and 59‑year‑old Milvia Quintana‑Placeres, both residents of the Pine Ridge North community where the incident occurred.
According to authorities, deputies were called to the 500 block of Shady Pine Way shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday following reports of shots fired inside an apartment complex. When officers arrived, they found one woman deceased and another suffering from gunshot injuries. The second woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The suspect in the shooting was identified by PBSO as 60‑year‑old Juan Estevez‑Mesa, who also lived at the same apartment complex. Law enforcement officials say that after the shooting, the suspect retreated into his home and did not respond to attempts by deputies to make contact. PBSO’s SWAT team was called in to assist with the situation.
After entering the residence, officers found the suspect deceased from an apparent self‑inflicted gunshot wound. There is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety, and authorities confirmed that the victims and the suspect were known to each other.
Investigators are continuing to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting, and police are asking for any information from community members who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area on Monday morning. Residents with relevant observations, recordings from nearby cameras, or other details that could assist the investigation are encouraged to contact the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to gathering witness accounts, detectives are also reviewing physical evidence from the scene as part of a broader effort to fully understand the circumstances behind the incident. PBSO officials have reiterated that the investigation is active, and further updates will be shared as appropriate.
The tragic deaths of Rodriguez‑Quintana and Quintana‑Placeres have saddened many in the tight‑knit Greenacres neighbourhood. Friends, neighbours and community leaders have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims, remembering them for the roles they played in their homes and community. Local organisations and leaders often highlight the importance of community support during difficult times like this, encouraging residents to look out for one another and to access available support resources.
Community leaders have also emphasised the importance of safety and communication within neighbourhoods, acknowledging that unexpected violence deeply affects families, neighbours, and local residents. In the wake of such incidents, outreach services, counselling and support networks are often mobilised to help people process grief and emotional stress.
Police have not announced any arrests or criminal charges beyond the events of the incident itself, and there is no further law enforcement action pending that would impact the broader community. Residents are urged to remain calm and to rely on official updates from the sheriff’s office as they become available.
