Feuerkogel, Upper Austria — January 26, 2026: A teenage boy from the Czech Republic has died following a skiing accident at the Feuerkogel ski resort in Upper Austria on Monday morning, local police said. The incident has saddened fellow holidaymakers and winter sports enthusiasts.

What Happened

The 14‑year‑old was skiing with a small group that included his father and other holidaymakers at about 10 a.m. on a beginner‑friendly slope when he suddenly veered off the groomed run into adjacent terrain. Police say he then fell about seven metres down a steep area with rocks and sparse snow cover.

A cable car employee passing by noticed the situation and immediately called emergency services. First responders reached the scene and worked at the site, but unfortunately the boy was pronounced dead at the location.

Response and Safety Notes

Emergency crews and rescue personnel were on site and made every effort to help, including resuscitation attempts. Authorities have not made any public comment suggesting other individuals were injured.

Police and local officials have reminded visitors that weather and terrain conditions can change quickly at ski resorts, and that areas beyond marked slopes may not have consistent snow or padding to soften falls.

Community Reaction

The incident has shaken the small resort community and fellow skiers, especially families visiting during the winter season. Many guests were reminded to exercise caution and remain aware of changing conditions while on the slopes.

Officials continue to work with ski resort authorities and local mountain rescue services as part of standard procedures following such tragedies. There is no indication of any ongoing safety issue for other visitors at the resort.
