Authorities in Charlotte have identified the woman who died earlier this week in an apartment off Central Avenue.
The victim, 26-year-old Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado, was found during a welfare check on March 10, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). Officials said the circumstances surrounding her decease are under investigation.
A day after the discovery, 23-year-old Lhis Brito Costa was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Court records indicate that Brito Costa is also subject to an ICE detainer.
CMPD has not released details about the relationship between the two women or what may have led to the incident. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.
Brito Costa was denied bond, and her next court appearance is scheduled for April 2. Law enforcement continues to gather information as part of the active investigation.
The case highlights the importance of community safety and vigilance. How can communities better support residents to prevent such tragedies?
