Ernest McCants, Pedestrian Died in Sumter County Traffic Collision.

Sumter County authorities have confirmed that a pedestrian was killed in a traffic collision on Valentine’s Day. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2026, around 7 p.m. on E Red Road near the bridge. Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker identified the individual as 54-year-old Ernest McCants.

According to the coroner’s office, McCants was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Medical University in Charleston.

The Sumter County Coroner’s Office, together with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the SC Highway Patrol to assist with the investigation.
