Authorities in Connecticut are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Tolland, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.
According to Connecticut State Police, the incident happened around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of Slater Road and Old Stafford Road. Emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision and began assisting those involved.
Officials identified the driver who died as 85-year-old Emmanuel Manoog Damboragian of Tolland. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 64-year-old passenger in his vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the second vehicle involved in the crash was driven by a 17-year-old, who appeared to have sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary findings from the police report indicate that Damboragian was driving a 2017 Nissan Murano westbound on Slater Road when the vehicle entered the intersection with Old Stafford Road. At that point, the Murano and a southbound Subaru Legacy collided.
Following the collision, both vehicles struck a nearby utility pole, according to investigators. Emergency personnel secured the area and provided assistance to those involved.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene to document evidence and determine the sequence of events. Authorities noted that the intersection remained closed for approximately four hours while the investigation was underway.
Officials have not released additional details about potential contributing factors, and no charges have been announced at this time.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to review evidence, including vehicle data, roadway conditions, and witness statements.
