Edgard Altamirano – Police in San Jose have released additional information about a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in a shopping center parking lot.
According to the San Jose Police Department, officers responded shortly before 11:40 a.m. to reports of gunfire at the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center. When officers arrived, they located a man and a woman with gunshot injuries. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Homicide detectives conducted a preliminary investigation and determined that the incident stemmed from a prior relationship. Police identified the man as 43-year-old Edgard Altamirano. Investigators believe he confronted his estranged partner before shooting her and then himself. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Authorities said the man and the 24-year-old woman had previously been in a dating relationship that ended several months ago. The woman’s name has not been released.
Police initially described the shooting as an isolated incident and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officials confirmed the case marks the city’s fourth homicide of the year.
The motive and full circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation. Detectives continue to gather evidence and are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the department.
