Eddie Nitschke – A man and his dog were seriously injured during an early-morning attack in Parkland on Sunday after an encounter with a stranger that escalated unexpectedly, according to law enforcement.
The victim, 54-year-old Eddie Nitschke, contacted emergency services to report that he had been injured in a parking lot where he and his girlfriend had been staying in their vehicle with their dogs. Deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene shortly afterward.
Authorities said the incident began when an unknown man approached Nitschke and asked him personal questions. During the brief interaction, the suspect reportedly focused on religious topics and continued questioning after Nitschke attempted to disengage. The situation then escalated into a sudden physical attack.
Nitschke sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. One of the couple’s dogs was also hurt during the incident after intervening, and the animal was taken for emergency veterinary care. Officials confirmed that both the man and the dog were listed in serious condition following the attack.
After the incident was reported, deputies conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area, including the use of K-9 units. Law enforcement later located a suspect in a nearby residential area. Police stated that the individual was armed and did not comply with commands when encountered.
During the confrontation, officers discharged their weapons. The suspect was injured and transported to the hospital, where he later died.
