Authorities in Texas are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an 87-year-old man in Coleman County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the incident occurred along County Road 402. Officials identified the driver as Bobby Eugene Dickinson, a resident of Coleman, Texas.
Preliminary findings indicate that Dickinson was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup westbound when the vehicle approached a curve in the roadway. Investigators say the driver was unable to maintain control while navigating the curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway on the north side.
Authorities reported that the pickup then struck a fence before overturning. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Dickinson, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS.
Officials have not released additional details about possible contributing factors, such as road conditions or other circumstances. The crash remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the exact sequence of events.
The Texas Department of Public Safety emphasized that investigations like this typically involve a detailed review of the scene, vehicle condition, and other relevant factors. Findings from the investigation will help clarify what led to the incident.
No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities have not indicated whether any external factors played a role in the crash.
Local officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating curves or rural roadways where conditions may change quickly. Law enforcement agencies say maintaining safe speeds and staying attentive can help reduce the risk of similar incidents.
The DPS has not announced when the investigation will be completed but noted that updates may be provided as more information becomes available.
