New York State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving two tractor-trailers on the New York State Thruway in Oneida County early Thursday morning.
Authorities responded just before 1:30 a.m. on March 5, 2026, to reports of a collision on Interstate 90 westbound in the town of Westmoreland.
According to State Police, a tractor-trailer driven by 42-year-old Ahmad Riyad Alomori of New Jersey was hauling an empty car carrier in the right lane when it was struck from behind by a second tractor-trailer. Both vehicles were moved to the right shoulder following the crash.
The driver of the rear tractor-trailer suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police have not yet released his identity as notification of next of kin is pending. Alomori sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Wynn Hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and State Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
This tragic incident temporarily disrupted traffic on the westbound lanes of the Thruway, and authorities remind drivers to stay alert and exercise caution in construction zones or areas with heavy truck traffic.
