Authorities in Weld County have released the name of the young man who died in an officer-involved incident the day before Thanksgiving. Officials confirmed that the individual was 18-year-old Aden Alcide Jeannoutot, a resident of Greeley. The incident occurred near a medical facility in the city on November 26 and has since drawn significant public attention as investigators work to understand the sequence of events.
The case is being reviewed by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, which handles investigations involving law enforcement use of force. Preliminary information from the team indicates that the events began during a traffic stop. A Greeley police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle near a major intersection, where two people were inside—a female driver and a male passenger. The driver exited the vehicle when instructed, but the passenger remained inside. Authorities later identified that passenger as Jeannoutot.
Officials reported that the officer recognized Jeannoutot from previous encounters and was aware that he had an active warrant. According to public records, Jeannoutot had been involved in several legal matters earlier in the year, including cases related to theft and another involving threats. Court documents show that he had been released on personal recognizance in those cases but did not appear for one of the scheduled hearings, which led to the warrant being issued.
Investigators stated that during the traffic stop, the officer asked Jeannoutot to step out of the vehicle multiple times. Instead of complying, he reportedly reached toward a bag resting on his lap. The officer continued giving commands, but Jeannoutot did not respond to them. Officials said this sequence of actions led to the officer firing at him. After the shooting, emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, and he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The release of Jeannoutot’s identity has prompted ongoing conversations in the community, with some expressing sadness at the loss of someone so young and others waiting for a complete account of what led to the incident. Investigators emphasized that their work remains active and that they are gathering information from multiple sources—including body-worn camera footage, witness accounts, and forensic results—to establish a clear and accurate understanding of what took place.
Authorities stressed that details are still being reviewed, and they have not yet released a full narrative of the incident. They noted that the purpose of the Critical Incident Response Team is to conduct an independent, thorough investigation that considers all available evidence. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the relevant district attorney, who will determine whether the use of force was justified under state law.
Community members are encouraged to share any information that may be relevant, though officials did not provide direct contact details publicly in an effort to avoid misuse and to ensure inquiries are directed through safe, official channels. Residents were reminded that verified updates will continue to come from local authorities as the investigation progresses.
The incident has highlighted broader discussions about safety, community trust, and the challenges law enforcement officers face during unpredictable encounters. At the same time, it has served as a reminder of the human impact such events have on families and neighborhoods. As the review continues, officials have asked the public to allow the investigative process to unfold and to avoid speculation until all facts are available.
For now, the community waits for more information, hoping for clarity and resolution while keeping those affected in their thoughts.
