State police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 84 in Waterbury that claimed the lives of two teenagers on Sunday morning. According to the Connecticut State Police Troop A, officers responded at approximately 7:56 a.m. to a multi-vehicle collision on westbound I-84 near Exit 25A.
The crash involved a blue 2008 Honda Fit, a white 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a gray 2021 Ford F-150. Police reported that the Honda Fit lost control in the left lane and struck the rear of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle then spun across the center lane and collided with the Ford F-150 in the right lane.
The driver of the Honda Fit, 16-year-old Abdriel Negron of Waterbury, and the front passenger, 18-year-old Sheily Briceno of Hartford, were both pronounced deceased at the scene, according to state police.
The Connecticut Accident Reconstruction Squad (CARS) is assisting with the investigation to determine the sequence of events and factors that contributed to the crash.
Authorities have not released information regarding the occupants of the other vehicles or whether any injuries occurred.
State police emphasized that the investigation remains active and urged motorists to exercise caution on the highway. Officials will provide updates as additional details become available.
