Authorities in Northern California are continuing to investigate a serious case after two individuals from Santa Rosa were found deceased following a traffic stop in Lake County over the weekend.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as 58-year-old Terry Joe Harris and 43-year-old Desiree Carmen Fuentes. Officials confirmed that their families have been notified as the investigation moves forward.
According to reports, the incident began on Sunday morning at approximately 8:50 a.m., when the California Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a gray SUV along State Route 53 near Dam Road in Clearlake due to a registration issue. The vehicle later came to a stop on 18th Avenue near Oak Street.
During the stop, one of the passengers attempted to leave the scene but was quickly detained by officers. The driver remained at the location. While interacting with the vehicle, officers noticed signs that prompted further inspection. They subsequently discovered Harris unresponsive in the rear passenger area. Emergency responders later confirmed he had passed away.
As the investigation continued, detectives were called to assist. During a search of the surrounding area, authorities located Fuentes at a separate location along State Route 175, not far from the county line.
Investigators believe the sequence of events may have started in Sonoma County before moving into Lake County, where the traffic stop occurred. Law enforcement agencies are working together to determine the full timeline and circumstances surrounding the case.
Two individuals from Clearlake were taken into custody in connection with the investigation. Authorities have indicated that multiple charges are being considered as the case develops. Officials emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.
