Authorities in Wells County are investigating a serious crash that occurred Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead and two others hospitalized.
According to the Wells County Sheriff’s Department, the incident took place around 2:45 p.m. along County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving significant impact.
Preliminary findings indicate that a BMW was traveling north along a roadway that transitions from Blackford County Road 600 East into Wells County. Shortly after entering Wells County, the vehicle reportedly crossed the center line for reasons that are still under investigation.
Officials say the car then struck a utility pole with enough force to cause severe damage before continuing off the roadway and coming to rest in a nearby field. First responders arrived promptly and began assisting those involved.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, and another passenger, age 20, were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Authorities have stated that their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Tragically, a third passenger, identified as 19-year-old Gavyn Orlando, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding his passing.
