Authorities have identified two individuals who died following a late-night crash on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Sunland. Officials say the incident remains under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), officers were dispatched at approximately 9:52 p.m. Friday to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 210, just east of Sunland Boulevard. The crash involved a parked passenger vehicle and a commercial truck.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Freightliner truck, driven by a man identified as Hardev Singh of Manteca, was traveling eastbound when it collided with a Honda Accord that was stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway. Authorities have not yet determined why the vehicle was parked at that location.

Officials confirmed that two occupants inside the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 25-year-old Wern Saetern and 23-year-old Alejandra Simental. Additional details about their residences have not been released.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators, according to CHP. No injuries were reported for the truck driver.

Authorities say the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Officials have not determined whether factors such as impairment or other conditions contributed to the incident.

Following the crash, portions of the eastbound freeway were temporarily closed to allow emergency responders and investigators to manage the scene. Traffic restrictions remained in place for several hours before lanes were reopened early Saturday morning.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash, including vehicle positions and roadway conditions. Investigators are working to establish a complete timeline of events.

Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact the CHP Altadena office or the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center. Community assistance can help support the ongoing investigation.

Authorities also remind drivers to exercise caution on highways, particularly when approaching stopped vehicles on the shoulder. Staying alert and following traffic safety guidelines can help reduce the risk of serious incidents.

The case remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
