Authorities in Cambria County are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 17-year-old student early Saturday morning.

According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. along the 500 block of Beaver Valley Road in Clearfield Township. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Officials identified the victim as Carter R. Gallaher, a student at Glendale High School. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The death has been ruled accidental, according to authorities.

Investigators reported that Gallaher was a rear-seat passenger in a 2018 Nissan Rogue at the time of the crash. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling northbound when the driver lost control while navigating a curve in the roadway. The vehicle then left the road and struck fixed objects before coming to a stop. Officials say speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.

Three other occupants, ages 19, 17, and 15, were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities have not released updates on their conditions.

Multiple emergency response teams assisted at the scene, including local fire departments, emergency medical services, and air medical support. Officials say their coordinated efforts ensured a rapid response to the incident.

The Pennsylvania State Police accident reconstruction team, along with the Cambria County Coroner’s Office and District Attorney’s Office, are jointly investigating the crash. Authorities are reviewing all available evidence to determine the full sequence of events.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials say additional details may be released once the review is complete.

Law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices, particularly on rural roads and curves where conditions can change quickly. Authorities also remind passengers to wear seatbelts at all times, as they can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury.

The community is encouraged to rely on official updates as investigators continue their work. Officials have expressed condolences to those affected and are asking for privacy for the family during this time.
