Mineral County Highway Crash

Nevada State Police have released information about a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 95 in Mineral County earlier this month. Officials say the collision involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions near mile marker 67 on March 12.

According to police, a northbound Ford Fusion crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2013 Kia Forte. The impact caused the Ford to rotate, roll onto its side, and catch fire.

The passenger in the Kia, identified as 56-year-old Jana Lee Cox of Yerington, Nevada, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed.

The driver of the Ford also died in the crash. Officials say the identity of the Ford driver is pending confirmation from the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the Kia sustained injuries but was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening conditions, police reported.

Nevada State Police said the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing. Officers are reviewing the scene, vehicle positions, and other factors to determine the cause of the incident.

Authorities emphasize the importance of cautious driving, particularly on highways where vehicles travel at higher speeds. Following traffic laws and maintaining attention while driving are key to reducing the risk of serious collisions.

Officials have not released further details, including whether impairment or road conditions played a role. The case remains under active investigation.

Residents and travelers in the area are reminded to exercise caution on U.S. 95 and other highways and to follow all safety guidelines while driving.

The Nevada State Police continue to investigate and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
