Authorities in Louisville are investigating a late-night incident that left one man dead and a police officer hospitalized, according to officials.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said officers were called to the 2900 block of Annie Street around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they began assessing the situation and gathering information at the scene.
During the initial response, police reported that a vehicle believed to be leaving the area struck one of the responding officers. The driver did not remain at the scene, and the incident is being treated as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet released details about the vehicle or the individual involved.
Shortly after the collision, officers located an adult male nearby who had sustained gunshot injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded and provided assistance, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 34-year-old Charmont Thompson. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
According to LMPD, the officer who was struck by the vehicle remained conscious and alert following the incident. The officer was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Police have not disclosed the extent of the officer’s injuries but indicated that the individual is receiving care.
