Authorities in Farmington are investigating the decease of a 29-year-old man discovered in a wooded area behind a condominium complex, officials confirmed Friday.
According to the Farmington Police Department, officers responded around 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, to Talcott Forest Road following a report of an untimely decease under suspicious circumstances.
When officers arrived, they located a man in a nearby wooded area. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as Derick William Mercado-Labonte, 29, of Bridgeport.
Following an initial investigation and a formal review by the medical examiner, officials have classified the case as a homicide.
Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident, citing the sensitive and ongoing nature of the investigation.
Authorities emphasized that the case appears to be isolated and stated there is no broader threat to the public at this time.
Investigators are asking anyone with information that may assist the case to contact the department’s Detective Division.
