Authorities have released the identity of a teenager who died following a drowning incident at Freedom Park in Star earlier this week.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 14-year-old Jeffrey Shepp, a resident of Nampa, died on Wednesday, March 18, after being found in a pond at the park.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. after reports of a water-related emergency. Deputies and first responders arrived quickly and began lifesaving efforts at the scene.
Despite those efforts, officials confirmed that the teen was pronounced deceased at the location. According to the coroner, the decease has been ruled accidental. Authorities have also stated that no foul play is suspected at this time.
Investigators with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, no further details have been made public.
In a statement, officials extended their sympathies to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time. The incident has drawn attention to water safety, particularly in public recreational areas such as parks and ponds.
Authorities are encouraging community members to remain cautious around open water and to follow safety guidelines to help prevent similar incidents.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say updates will be shared if additional information becomes available.
